Die Gestik der zum Protest erhobenen Hände und des Schwenkens einer Fahne findet sich ebenso in Thomas Dworzaks Bild aus Georgien, das er im Oktober 2000 im Pankissi-Tal aufnahm und das tschetschenische Flüchtlinge zeigt, die gegen die russische Regierung demonstrieren (Abb. 7). Auch wenn die bildformalen Mittel beider Fotografien viel Übereinstimmung bieten, steht Dworzaks Fotografie symbolhaft für einen ganz anderen Konflikt, ebenso wie die Fotografie des Magnum-Fotografen Abbas von 1979, die bewaffnete Protestierende vor der US-Botschaft in Teheran zeigt, die aber mit den ausgestreckten Armen und den der Kamera zu sehen gegebenen Bannern, von denen eines die Freiheitsstatue zeigt, ebenso auf die bekannte Ikonografie verweist (Abb. 8).
